Endowment Funds

Annual Giving is Beauvoir’s most important giving priority. Our community’s participation is critical and reflects our shared belief in the School’s mission to “build an enduring foundation for a lifelong spirit of inquiry and joy in learning.” Beauvoir relies on Annual Giving to help sustain the resources to provide an extraordinary early childhood education.

Generous gifts from parents, alumni, grandparents and friends towards our endowment invest in Beauvoir’s future and ensure that the School remains a leader in early childhood education for many years to come. Continued endowment growth supports financial aid for students, salary increases and professional development opportunities for faculty, and enhanced learning experiences for our children.

Current endowment funds include:

  • The Susan Dawson Faculty Salary Fund, established by a Beauvoir alumnus in 2005, to honor Susan Dawson, a second grade teacher who taught at Beauvoir in the 1950s and 1960s. The income from this fund will be designated to support faculty salaries. 
  • The Sylvia H. Thompson Milestone Fund, created in 2005 in loving memory of Beauvoir’s beloved science teacher, Sylvia Howe Thompson. Through this fund, the School will be able to offer teachers incentives to continue their work at Beauvoir and reward their wonderful work with children. 
  • The Faculty Salary Endowment Fund, established during Beauvoir’s 1987 capital campaign, to provide income to support teachers’ salaries. 
  • The Miriam Glass Endowment Fund, established in 1980 to honor Beauvoir’s first art teacher Mrs. Miriam Glass, on the occasion of her retirement. Income from this fund supports general operating expenses. 
  • The Julia Morse Scholarship Fund was created to honor one of Beauvoir’s original faculty members who taught at the School for more than 40 years. Income from this fund is applied to financial assistance. 
  • The Madeleine R. Lockman Endowment Fund, established in 1990 by Steven Lockman and his sons, Michael ’88 and Andrew ’90, in memory of their mother who was an elementary school teacher. The fund’s income is applied to providing professional development opportunities for young teachers.

Planned Giving

Planned giving is a way for donors to “leave a legacy” by impacting Beauvoir beyond their lifetime. It allows donors to make larger gifts than might otherwise be possible, and may enable them to increase their retirement incomes and receive tax advantages. The long-term nature of these gifts provides a legacy that Beauvoir can rely on in planning for current and future needs, as well as giving future generations the gift of an extraordinary education.

The Maypole Society was formed in 2002 to honor those who have provided for Beauvoir through a provision in their estate plans. By becoming a member of the Maypole Society you will help shape Beauvoir’s future and leave a lasting legacy to the School. If you would like to become a member of the Maypole Society, please notify the school that you have made a provision for Beauvoir in your estate plan. There are a variety of ways to realize the benefits of planned giving.
