Work at Camp

I appreciate your interest in Beauvoir Summer!

We are looking to hire dedicated Lead Counselors, Assistant Counselors, Swim Staff, and more for summer 2024! Please email BSummer@Cathedral.org if you wish to learn more about our summer programs and the opportunity to work with our incredible team!

Employment Opportunities

Each year, Beauvoir carefully selects Lead Counselors and Assistant Counselors from a pool of interested candidates. Individuals in each role have proven experience working with young children in either a camp or school setting and counselor placements are thoughtfully decided with the overall needs of the summer program in mind.

Each camp room has at least one lead counselor and an assistant counselor who work together to provide a safe and engaging experience for their campers. Activities and projects connect with our weekly themes and are designed collaboratively with the larger camp team. Also, each camp team will have a designated coordinator to oversee the program and guide the counselors.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Experience with and education in elementary-aged children
  • Be punctual and reliable with attendance
  • Be comfortable participating in lessons/activities
  • Be patient, flexible, and able to work collaboratively with children and staff

Responsibilities:

  • Meet with the camp leadership team and colleagues to plan and prepare daily activities and projects
  • Serve and distribute snacks and lunch
  • Supervise and engage the children during inside and outside play
  • Encourage and guide children as they interact with other children
  • Help maintain a neat, clean, and organized environment

Successful candidates must pass a criminal background check and an FBI fingerprinting and submit a completed health form by District of Columbia law.

Our Swim Staff provides campers with a safe, developmentally appropriate swim instruction environment. Swim staff must have experience on a swim team or teaching swim lessons to children.

Please note that we have certified lifeguards through our pool management company during camp hours, so swim staff do not need this certification to join our team. However, they must know Red Cross swim levels and water safety practices.

  • Experience as a swimmer
  • Experience with elementary-aged children
  • Be punctual, reliable, and responsible
  • Attain CPR/AED and First Aid certification

  • Differentiate swim instruction based on swim levels
  • Supervise and engage the children during swim times
  • Encourage and guide children to meet swim objectives
  • Help maintain a neat, clean, and organized pool environment

Candidates must be, at minimum, a rising junior in high school.

Successful candidates must also pass a criminal background check and an FBI fingerprinting and submit a completed health form by District of Columbia law.
