At Beauvoir, we encourage natural curiosity and exploration in a joyful and safe environment and provide children with numerous opportunities to gain confidence, learn new skills, improve decision-making and form strong bonds with the natural world.
Beauvoir’s Paula Carreiro Campus Outdoor Laboratory features play equipment manufactured by Richter Spielgeräte GmbH, whose philosophy that children must be able to explore with all of their senses to truly understand their environment aligns with Beauvoir’s perspectives on education, health and early childhood development.
The play equipment consists of natural materials with natural finishes intended to blend into the landscape, which is the foreground for the Cathedral tower. There are no bright-colored plastic or steel structures.
After school and on the weekends, parking is plentiful on the Cathedral grounds. Please do not park in the neighborhood.
Unfortunately, the restrooms are not for use outside of school or camp hours.

At Beauvoir, students spend time outdoors at least twice per day because we recognize that time spent outdoors boosts a child’s happiness, health, confidence and resilience. Beauvoir students learn and play across the 57-acre Cathedral Close, whether exploring Olmsted Woods, the Bishop’s Garden, the Beauvoir courtyard, the Beauvoir Children’s Garden, or our playground, our unique spaces support and expand the curriculum outside of the traditional classroom.
Designed to meet the play and learning needs of children from infancy through the late elementary years, Beauvoir’s outdoor spaces provide our students with the chance to foster a spirit of inquiry and a joy in exploring the natural environment.
At Beauvoir, we believe that young children learn through free, imaginative play, which is crucial for physical, emotional, cognitive and social development. We encourage natural curiosity and exploration in a joyful and safe environment and provide children with numerous opportunities to gain confidence, learn new skills, improve decision-making, and form strong bonds with the natural world.
