Swim Instruction Levels

Nemos

This beginning level for children teaches them to be comfortable and safe in the water. Instructors will focus on introducing children to the water and improving their safety and comfort in the swimming pool.

The class will feature activities such as face in the water, wet hair submerging, opening eyes, front glide, back glide, breath control, moving around comfortably, blowing bubbles, and having fun in the class with aquatic recreation, gaining confidence and interest in swimming. We highly recommend this level for children who have never taken lessons, preferably children between 3 and 5 years old.

Sea Turtles

This level marks the beginning of independent aquatic locomotion skills. Children continue to explore using simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back to gain more stroke proficiency.

This class will introduce exercises in the water, such as arm movement, body position, leg movement, and floating and blowing bubbles, all connected with freestyle and backstroke. This level is recommended for children who are confident in the water but have never had lessons or caves taken and passed Nemos level.

Dolphins

Students who complete this level will be comfortable swimming in deep water and be proficient in front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke. They will be able to swim 50 yards with each of the strokes. This group is for children who are confident in the water and know the basic swimming skills of freestyle and backstroke.

The arm position, leg exercises, breathing, turns, tread water, and diving will be practiced at this level. Butterflies will be introduced in this class. This group focuses on children who already know the basic freestyle and backstroke skills or on children who have passed the Sea Turtles level.

Sharks

Sharks aim to make the students comfortable swimming and practicing in deep water, significantly improve rotary breathing with front crawl, demonstrate some proficiency in the other strokes being introduced, and develop endurance by increasing their swim distances.

In this class, the swimmers will improve the quality of their movement in the backstroke, freestyle, breaststroke, and butterfly. The correct diving position will also be an essential skill learned in the class. This class is recommended for children who have successfully finished Dolphins level or those with previous swimming experience.

The Beauvoir Pool is located behind Beauvoir School on Pilgrim Road. Pilgrim Road is only accessible from Massachusetts Avenue through St. Albans’ main entrance.

Parking for the pool is available in front of Beauvoir School off Woodley Road and Pilgrim Road, entering from St. Albans.

There is an enclosed toddler pool area with beach-style access. The main pool is also handicap accessible. Stroller access will be possible from Pilgrim Road. Strollers can be brought on deck if the safety rules are adhered to. Please see the pool manager when arriving for details.

Children may use the main toddler pool with swim-appropriate diapers. Due to safety and health concerns, regular diapers are not permitted.

Family and Beauvoir memberships may include one babysitter or au pair. The caretaker must be listed by name on the application. Caretakers must be 15 years of age or older.

No food or beverages (except water) will be allowed on the pool deck. Our Snack Bar will be open. We kindly ask that you enjoy snacks in a socially distant spot outside the pool gate, away from the check-in desk.

The snack bar shares a space with the pool deck at the entrance. Food is provided by Beauvoir’s dining service, Meriwether Godsey. The snack bar serves beverages, snacks, and cold treats and is open during pool hours.

The pool is an outdoor, summer-only pool membership; the pool will not be heated.

We do not pro-rate memberships.
