The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) is continually revising their summer camp and pool guidelines. We will open Swim Lesson registration at a later date, as OSSE permits.

In addition, the Beauvoir Pool will adhere to all COVID-19 safety protocols set forth by OSSE, and we will provide the details of those procedures to our registered Pool members and on this website as they become available. Our goal is to provide our Pool members with the most accurate and up-to-date information available in a timely manner.

We appreciate your patience, as guidelines are changing often, and details are extremely limited at this time.

Swim Instruction Levels

Nemos

This beginning level for children teaches them to be comfortable and safe in the water. Instructors will focus on introducing children to the water and improving their safety and comfort in the swimming pool.

The class will feature activities such as: face in the water, wet the hair, submerging, opening eyes, front glide, back glide, breath control, moving around comfortably, blowing bubbles and having fun in the class with aquatic recreation, gaining confidence and interest in swimming. We highly recommend this level for children who have never taken lessons, preferably children between 3 and 5 years old.

Sea Turtles

This level marks the beginning of independent aquatic locomotion skills. Children continue to explore using simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back to gain more proficiency for strokes.

This class will introduce exercises in the water such as: arm movement, body position, leg movement, floating and blowing bubbles, all connected with free style and backstroke. This level is recommended for children that are confident in the water but never had lessons, or children that have taken and passed Nemos level.

Dolphins

Students who successfully complete this level will be comfortable swimming in deep water, be proficient in front crawl, back crawl, breast stroke. They will be able to swim 50 yards with each of the strokes. This group is for children that are confident in the water and know the basic swimming skills of free style and backstroke.

At this level the arm position, legs exercises, breathing, turns, tread water and diving will be practiced. Butterfly will be introduced in this class. The focus of this group is for children that already know basic skills of freestyle and backstroke or for children that passed the Sea Turtles level.

Sharks

The goal for sharks is to make the students comfortable swimming and practicing in deep water and to make major improvements to rotary breathing with front crawl, demonstrate some proficiency in the other strokes being introduced and begin to develop endurance by increasing distances they can swim.

At this class the swimmers will improve the quality of their movement in the backstroke, freestyle, breaststroke and butterfly. The correct diving position will also be an important skill learned in the class. This class is recommended for children that successfully finished Dolphins level or children with previous swimming experience.

The Beauvoir Pool is located behind Beauvoir School on Pilgrim Road. Pilgrim Road is only accessible from Massachusetts Avenue through St. Albans main entrance.

Parking for the pool is available in front of Beauvoir School off of Woodley Road, and Pilgrim Road, entering from St. Albans.

There is an enclosed toddler pool area with beach-style access. The main pool is also handicap accessible. Stroller access will be possible from Pilgrim Road. Strollers can be brought on deck if the safety rules are adhered to. Please see pool manager when arriving for details.

Children may use the main toddler pool with swim appropriate diapers. Due to safety and health concerns, regular diapers are not permitted.

Family and Beauvoir memberships may include one babysitter or au-pair. The caretaker must be listed by name on the application. Caretakers must be 15 years of age or older.

An additional membership is available for $5, and a replacement ID is $10.

No food or beverages (except water) will be allowed on the pool deck. Our Snack Bar will be open. We kindly ask that you enjoy snacks in a socially distant spot outside of the pool gate, away from check-in desk.

The snack bar shares a space with the pool desk, located at the pool entrance. Food is provided by Beauvoir’s dining service, Meriwether Godsey. The snack bar serves beverages, snacks, and cold treats and is open during pool hours.

No food or beverages (except water) will be allowed on the pool deck. Our Snack Bar will be open. We kindly ask that you enjoy snacks in a socially distant spot outside of the pool gate, away from check-in desk.

Details are forthcoming.

The depths run about 3 feet in the shallow end to about 5 feet at the deep end.

There are two permanent lap lanes with the ability to add a third lane when possible. The lap lanes are 25 meters long. During weekend pool hours, there will be a designated Adult swim time of 10-15 minutes each hour. This will be decided and managed at the discretion of the pool manager.

An automated sand filtration system is used, along with Chlorine to disinfect the water and CO2 to control the pH.

As the pool is an outdoor summer-only pool membership, the pool will not be heated.

We do not pro-rate memberships.

The Beauvoir pool is not available to rent.

Lifeguards are on duty during pool hours only.  They have full authority to remove from the pool or pool deck members or guests who, in their reasonable judgment, continually disregard pool rules and safety.
