Service

Service Learning at Beauvoir looks a bit different during a pandemic; however, we continue to offer vibrant and meaningful experiences across all grade levels. Please ask us about our work with Seniors, Capitol Workers, Book Drives, and Food Drives. This September fall we are engaged with a very special project involving stuffed bears, of course!

Below, please read about our service-learning philosophy and the experiences that take place in a regular year.

Beauvoir children participate in service activities that actively engage them in creating and building relationships with others to benefit their city, their country and the world. At each grade level, children participate in a meaningful and age-appropriate service experience each year, ranging from First Grade children developing a staff appreciation project to better understand that service to others starts at home, to Second Grade students partnering with senior citizens at St. Albans Church. Third Grade students partner with Martha’s Table and serve as role models for younger students in its daycare program, as well as play a leadership role in our monthly chapels. Beauvoir instills in students at an early age the Life Rules of kindness, respect, responsibility and honesty, qualities the children carry with them well beyond Beauvoir.

Age-appropriate community service activities include: the annual Walk-a-Thon to benefit the National Cathedral restoration fund; monthly school-wide Snack Packing for DC Central Kitchen; a school-wide collection of socks, gloves and mittensknown as the Gifting Tree, to benefit Langston Terrace and the National Center for Children and Families; pie baking at home to benefit DC Central Kitchen; and a spring backpack collection of summer items to donate to Martha’s Table.
