Music Teacher Sara Alipanah Presents on Social Emotional Learning

Last Saturday, performing arts teacher Sara Alipanah presented to the Middle Atlantic Chapter of the American Orff Schulwerk Association about the uses of mindfulness and social emotional learning (SEL) in the music classroom. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions, achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions. Ms. Alipanah, who currently serves on Beauvoir’s Social Emotional Learning committee, is very passionate about SEL and mindfulness, and she enjoys finding ways to incorporate them with an early childhood lens. She loves finding songs, stories, and activities that help students develop skills in these areas and become more in touch with feelings and intentions – both their own and those of others. Beauvoir is so proud to to be represented by experts on early childhood like Ms. Alipanah!
