With health and safety measures in place, Beauvoir is prepared to greet students on campus and remote learners during a week of Orientation beginning September 8, and share initiatives underway in keeping with the school’s Life Rules.
This year, before arrival every day, parents and caregivers are required to take and post their children’s temperatures, plus complete a Daily Screening via Magnus Health. Faculty and Staff are required to do the same. Everyone entering the campus must don face masks and access the building through designated entrances, several of which have thermal temperature scanners in place, to mitigate exposure risks.
Faculty and staff received additional personal protective equipment (PPE), including optional face shields and full-body smocks, upon their return on August 31. Children will receive optional face shields, as well, and Smart bracelets for easy temperature checks during the day. Both items provided to children will remain at school.
Appropriate socially-distanced desks, iPads, and individual school supplies await every child in the building and bungalow classrooms, readied with colorful welcoming signs created by their teachers. In the redesigned environs, Beauvoir’s renowned early education classes resume September 14, as new offerings promoting outdoor education, service learning, and more are introduced.
Outdoor Education will expand on activities for all students during the week and conduct a program specific to virtual learners on Wednesdays with small, masked, socially-distanced groups hiking and exploring the expansive 59 acres of the Cathedral Close grounds. A new Service Learning program with public-private partnerships, spearheaded by the Beauvoir Parents Association (PA) in concert with the Faculty and Staff, will provide opportunities to connect with other schools in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The program will encourage and support community engagement; build strong, professional partnerships among teachers; and help in a very tangible way to meet immediate school needs with supplies, as many educators navigate teaching young students in virtual classrooms. This intentional community approach further activates Beauvoir’s Life Rules during these unprecedented times. For more information, visit www.beauvoirschool.org.
