The Beauvoir Fund (Annual Giving)

What is the Beauvoir Fund (annual giving) and why is it important?
  • Top school giving priority.
  • Supports current operations in this school year.
  • Funds everything (faculty, financial aid, classroom supplies and technology enhancements) in our budget.
  • The school operates at a deficit as a non-profit and relies on unrestricted giving to make up the difference. Tuition does not cover the total cost of a child’s education at Beauvoir; annual giving increases accessibility to a Beauvoir education.
  • The Scholarship Benefit in the spring is restricted to funding financial assistance in future years.
As the foundation for philanthropy at Beauvoir, Annual Giving directly impacts all Beauvoir students by supporting:
  • Excellence in Teaching: Beauvoir consistently attracts and retains highly talented early childhood educators.
  • Professional Development Opportunities: Faculty engage in meaningful experiences that ensure teaching and learning is high-quality and current.
  • Scholarship Support: Beauvoir is committed to being accessible for families from a wide variety of socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Inspiring and Collaborative Learning Spaces: Indoor and outdoor areas are designed to engage and excite students in the world around them.
  • Innovative Hands-On Technology: Teachers and students have access to computer science resources to learn abstract concepts and become fluent in coding languages.

List of 5 frequently asked questions.

  • What is Annual Giving?

Annual Giving refers to unrestricted gifts made on a yearly basis that directly support the operating budget. Annual Giving is an opportunity for our community to support our greatest priorities: the people and programs that make Beauvoir special. A tax-deductible gift to Annual Giving is the first gift we ask of every parent at the beginning of the school year.
  • Why does Beauvoir ask for annual gifts in addition to tuition?

As is the case in most independent schools, tuition income is simply not adequate to cover our operating expenses. This year, the cost to educate each child is over $8,000 more than the cost of actual tuition.
  • Why doesn’t Beauvoir just raise tuition?

The School's administration and Governing Board are committed to making a Beauvoir education affordable to as many families as possible. An increase in tuition that would replace the funds raised through Annual Giving would be significant and would jeopardize the socioeconomic diversity of our community.
  • What is an appropriate amount to give?

We hope that Beauvoir parents will make Annual Giving their top philanthropic priority each year, as it goes to directly to benefit each teacher and each student. We ask each family to decide on an amount that is most appropriate for them. Beauvoir counts on gifts of all sizes. Last year, parents gave from $20 to $30,000 and the average family gift was approximately $2,100.
  • How is Annual Giving different from the Scholarship Auction?

Annual Giving and the Scholarship Auction both provide critical operating support for Beauvoir, but they play slightly different roles.

Annual Giving is the foundation of philanthropy at Beauvoir. It is the largest fundraising effort each year, directly supports our operating budget and bridges the gap that exists between tuition and the actual cost of a Beauvoir education. Participation in Annual Giving is also an indicator of our community’s strength, making support at any level especially powerful -- and our top priority.

The Scholarship Auction, sponsored by our Parents Association, is a celebratory community-wide event and a wonderful way to volunteer and support Beauvoir. The money raised by the Auction directly funds scholarship assistance and the financial aid budget.
