At this point, know that our intent is to still return on May 15, even though Mayor Bowser shared that May 29 is the last day of remote learning and last day of the school year for D.C. public schools. We are not ready to make that decision and are following the guidance of health officials and leaders to make sure that our final decision is as informed as possible. In addition, Beauvoir is working very closely with NCS and STA to make sure that our decisions are unified and carefully considered as a team.
As we navigate these unprecedented times, we remain hopeful that the pool, swim lessons, and summer camp will be able to open as scheduled. At this point, it is too early to make any final decisions, but we continue to follow the health recommendations for the community with the safety of our children, staff, and members being a top priority. If we have to postpone or cancel, we will issue prorated or full refunds dependent on the case.
The three-tiered remote learning model that was shared with families is the model that Beauvoir developed to meet the diverse needs of our families and students until we return to school. It provides a balance of synchronous, asynchronous, and opt-in activities for families to choose from, depending on their learning preferences. Every day will begin with a Morning Meeting, Community Meeting (every other Friday), or Chapel (every other Friday). Each day will end with a Closing Circle or Connection time with Mrs. Gibbs-Wilborn (Fridays). Please visit our remote learning landing page to learn more about the rationale behind our model and the options available to families.
Beauvoir is beginning to consider different learning options and summer extensions for our families should we not return to school this spring. Although nothing has been confirmed yet, and we are still in the planning process, we are considering various options such as summer onsite academic programs, supplemental online summer work, and other creative avenues we can pursue to support the learning during the summer months. We will keep you updated as plans develop, and as we learn more about extended school closures in the D.C. area.
All families who enrolled in ABC and Enrichment Classes have already received or will be receiving a prorated refund for the remainder of the year through the coordination of our Auxiliary Programs and Business Office. If you have further questions or have not received this yet, please feel free to contact Auxiliary Programs.
