Frequently Asked Questions

List of 18 frequently asked questions.

  • How do I apply to Beauvoir?

You may apply online from September - January through Ravenna, our online admissions portal.
  • How do I register for Parent Tours, Open Houses and Parent Meetings?

You may sign up for Parent Tours, Open Houses and Parent Meetings through Ravenna, our online admissions portal.
  • What is the difference between a Parent Tour and an Open House?

A Parent Tour is required for the admissions process. You are toured by a current parent and then meet with a member of the Admissions Team as a group to ask questions and hear more about the School. An Open House is optional for the admissions process and is a larger event. There is a program that includes faculty members, administrators and members of the community, followed by an abbreviated tour of the School.
  • Is a Parent Tour required?

Yes, a Parent Tour is required for both parents and/or guardians unless you have previously toured the School. You may sign up through Ravenna, our online admissions portal.  Please note that some Parent Meetings are available at select times following tours.
  • Do I need to complete an application before my Parent Tour?

No, you are welcome to be a part of a Parent Tour and to attend our Open Houses prior to applying to Beauvoir.
  • Can I have a Parent Meeting before I take a Parent Tour of the School?

You can sign up for a Parent Meeting anytime through Ravenna, our online admissions portal. We ask that you complete the Parent Tour prior to the meeting. Parents have shared that the meetings are much more productive after they have seen the School.
  • How do I know when my child will have their playdate?

The Admission Team will send you an email with the date for your child’s pre-kindergarten or kindergarten visit, which may be scheduled for as early as November or as late as February. This date is determined after we receive your application. Please note, because the children are grouped by age you may get an email within a few weeks of submitting your application or it may be a month or more.
  • How long does the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten playdate last?

The playdates last for 1 ½ hours from 9:00 am until 10:30 am. We ask that you come by 8:50 am so that your child has time to get comfortable before we begin.
  • How long does the visit for first through third graders last?

Applicants for first through third grade will visit Beauvoir on a weekday morning. The visit time may vary depending on the classroom schedule. The children in the classrooms are very excited to welcome visitors and will eagerly be awaiting your child’s arrival. Please note that children are admitted in these grades when an opening occurs. Therefore, not all applicants will be asked to visit the School.
  • What should my child wear when they come for a visit?

They should wear comfortable clothes, possibly what they wear to their current school. Pre-Kindergarten and kindergarten applicants will not go outside. Those children applying to first through third grades may have the opportunity to play on our playground so appropriate attire, including sneakers or comfortable shoes and a jacket, is suggested.
  • How can the Teacher Recommendation Form be completed if my child does not attend a school?

This usually is handled on an individual basis. At times a child may be enrolled in a class (art, dance) or may attend a church or synagogue where an adult is able to provide the necessary information.
  • What if we feel we cannot afford Beauvoir?

We are committed to making a Beauvoir education accessible to families at various income levels. Financial Aid is available for tuition, extended day and enrichment programs. Please visit our Tuition and Financial Aid pages for information.
  • What are your school hours?

School doors open at 7:50 am, with class beginning at 8:30 am for pre-kindergarten and 8:15 am for kindergarten through third grade. School dismisses for all grades at 3:00 pm.
  • Does Beauvoir have an extended day program?

Yes, the After Beauvoir Center (ABC) provides extended day care until 6:00 p.m. every school day.
  • What after-school activities can my child become involved in?

In addition to ABC, Beauvoir also offers enrichment programs after school, which have included classes such as soccer, cooking, fencing and yoga, as well as language classes, including Spanish, French and Mandarin for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Third Grade.
  • How many new students are accepted each year?

There are approximately 60 new pre-kindergarten students and about 25 new kindergarten students accepted each year. Children are accepted to first through third grades depending on attrition and we encourage families to apply to those grades.
  • Are there any feeder schools to Beauvoir?

No, we receive applications from children who attend more than 100 schools from the Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia area, as well as from schools around the country and around the world.
  • What is the process for sibling applications?

Beauvoir truly values its current families and enjoys welcoming siblings into the community. Details about the sibling application process are sent to current Beauvoir families in early September and can also be found in the Beauvoir Handbook and Directory.
