Accreditation: Beauvoir is accredited by the Association of Independent Maryland Schools (AIMS) and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Beauvoir is also a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), the National Association of Episcopal Schools, the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the Association of Independent Schools of Greater Washington (AISGW), and many more professional organizations.

Alumni: Beauvoir’s alumni number over 4,000 adults and children. The Office of Institutional Advancement plans reunions each year for 4th, 8th, and 12th graders, as well as various activities for adult alumni. Check the Alumni page for more information.

Campus: Beauvoir’s home is on the stunning 60 acre grounds of the Washington National Cathedral. Our main academic building was opened in 2001. We also have an outdoor pool (used for Beauvoir’s Summer Program), art studio, science lab, library, gymnasium, performance hall, music studio, playgrounds, dining room, and gardens.

Child Care: When the school day ends, Beauvoir offers the After Beauvoir Center (ABC), which remains open until 6:00 p.m. Care is also offered for most teacher professional days and for events being held after school. Additionally, Beauvoir also has a faculty and staff childcare room for infants and young children.

Diversity: Enriched by the racial, cultural, national and socioecomic diversity of Washington, D.C., Beauvoir prepares students well for the world which awaits them: a fairly equal mix of boys and girls; with approximately 41% of the students are from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

Financial Aid: Beauvoir offers more than $1 million each year for financial aid to students. Beauvoir’s Admissions process is “need-blind,” meaning all applications are given equal weight, regardless of ability to pay full tuition.

Languages: Students in all grades (PK-3) are taught Spanish.

Library: Beauvoir’s Library has more than 17,000 titles that are tailored to young readers.

4th Grade Outplacement: Consistently, more than 95% of Beauvoir students are able to attend their first choice school for Fourth Grade. Beginning in the summer before their child's Third Grade year, Beauvoir's Guidance Director, James Carroll, assists families through every step of the journey to determine the best school for their child.

Beauvoir, the National Cathedral Elementary School, founded in 1933, is a primary school dedicated to educating a diverse student body in a caring and creative environment. Our program is designed to nurture the spiritual, ethical, intellectual, emotional, physical, and social development of our children. We seek to foster a spirit of inquiry and a joy in learning.
