Welcome New Faculty!
Important Details for the First Week of School!
9/2/2010

As summer vacation winds down, excitement is building for the first week of school! We are excited to welcome your children to Beauvoir next week and wanted to remind you of the following items below.

Back to School Open House
Tuesday, September 7th from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

The 2010-11 school year kicks off with the annual Back-to-School Open House on Tuesday, September 7th from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

This is a casual event where your children meet their new teachers and visit their new classrooms. There is no structured program and families are encouraged to attend

anywhere in the two-hour time frame. Younger and older siblings are welcome, but for safety reasons we ask that you keep a close eye on all children.

Teachers will have a form available for parents to sign-up for this week’s parent conferences.  Additionally, your copy of the 2010-11 Beauvoir Handbook and Directory will be available. If you have more than one child, your family’s copy will be available in the oldest child’s classroom.

A light breakfast will be served in the courtyard, where there will be an opportunity to sign-up for the many volunteer opportunities available this year. Additionally, Beauvoir logo items will be for sale—a great time to stock-up prior to Spirit Day on Friday, September 17th.

As always, this is a busy day on the Close and parking is strongly encouraged in the Cathedral’s underground parking garage—Beauvoir validates for up to three hours.

Early Dismissal

Parent Conferences
Wednesday, September 8- Friday, September 10

The first “official” day of school is Wednesday, September 8th.  The front doors of school will open at 7:50 a.m.  and morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal will take place as usual.  New parents are encouraged to reference their Welcome to Beauvoir book (sent earlier this summer) for carpool procedures.

Please remember that school will dismiss at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8th, Thursday, September 9th and Friday, September 10th to allow for parent/teacher conferences. Students will be served lunch all three days next week.

Conference childcare is available from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Dining Room as part of the After Beauvoir Center and there is no charge for this service.  However, students should be left only for as long as their parents are attending meetings.

Visitor Parking Changes for this Year

Since we sent the parking mailing in early August, we’ve made some changes to visitor parking at Beauvoir.  Now, the majority of visitor parking (25 spots) will be located along South Road between the Cathedral Greenhouse and Woodley Road.   Five (5) visitor spots remain in the NCS garage and four (4) spots remain in front of school.  Parking is allowed along the front fence of school during morning drop-off as well as Beauvoir Road until 8:45 a.m.

Please note, we hope to have all the signage on South Road changed by the day of the Open House, however, it may take a few days into next week before all the signs catch up with the location of the actual visitor parking spots.  Officer Armstrong will be directing traffic and parking for the first few days of school—please follow his direction.  Please remember to have your parking permit on display on your dashboard or you risk getting a ticket.   Please also be sure you are not parked in a fire lane, cars in these locations will be ticketed and could be towed.

The After Beauvoir Center

The After Beauvoir Center (ABC) opens on Wednesday, September 8th when school dismisses at 1:00 p.m.  If you wish to have your child signed-up for ABC on a regular or drop-in basis, and have yet to do so, please contact Martha Robles in the Business Office (marobles@cathedral.org or 202-537-6484) as soon as
