Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I apply to Beauvoir?
A. You may apply online from September through December.

All families who apply online will be sent a supplementary packet that includes detailed information about the application process.

Q. Is there a waiting list to apply to Beauvoir?
A. No, any family is welcome to apply to Beauvoir.

Q. How do I know when my child will have their play date?
A. Our Admissions Office will send you an email with the date for your child’s visit. Play dates occur from November through February. This date is determined after we receive your application. Please note, because the children are grouped by age you may get an email within a few weeks of submitting your application or it may be a month or more.

Q. What should my child wear when they come for a visit?
A. They should wear comfortable clothes, possibly what they wear to their current school. Pre-K and K applicants will not go outside. Those children applying to 1st – 3rd grades may have the opportunity to play on our playground so appropriate attire, including sneakers or comfortable shoes and a jacket, is suggested.

Q. How long does the Pre- Kindergarten and Kindergarten play date last?
A. The play dates last for 1 ½ hours from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM. We ask that you come by 8:50 AM so that your child has time to get comfortable before we begin.

Q. How long does the visit for first through third graders last?
A. Applicants for first through third grade will visit a classroom from about 8:15 AM until approximately 10:30 AM. These times will vary depending on the classroom schedule. The children in the classrooms are very excited to welcome visitors and will eagerly be awaiting your child’s arrival.

Q. Do I stay with my child during the visit?
A. You will stay at Beauvoir, but you will be in another room. You are welcome to work and make phone calls. Also, we will have coffee and a newspaper available.

Q. What if we feel we cannot afford Beauvoir?
A. 
We are committed to making a Beauvoir education accessible to families at various income levels. Financial Assistance is available for tuition, Extended Day, and Enrichment Programs. Please visit the "Financial Aid" portion of our website for information about Financial Assistance.

Q. What after school activities can my child become involved in?
A. The After Beauvoir Center (ABC) provides extended day care until 6:00 p.m. Beauvoir also offers enrichment programs after school, which have included classes such as soccer, cooking, chess, basketball,and yoga. Additionally, Beauvoir's after school Foreign Language Institute offers Spanish, French and Mandarin for students in Pre-K through 3rd grade.

Q. Does Beauvoir have an Extended Day Program?
A. Yes, the After Beauvoir Center provides extended care until 6 p.m. every school day.

Q. How many new students are accepted each year?
A. There are 63 new Pre-K students and about 21 new K students accepted each year. Children are accepted to 1st – 3rd grades depending on attrition, but we encourage families to apply to those grades.

Q. Is a tour required?
A. Yes, if you decide to apply to Beauvoir, a tour is required for both parents and/or guardians.

Q. What is the difference between a Parent Tour and an Open House?
A. A Parent Tour is required for the admissions process.  You are taken around the school by a current parent and then meet with a member of the Admissions team as a group to ask questions and hear more about the school.  An Open House is optional for the admissions process and is a larger event.  There is a program which includes faculty members and the Head of School, followed by a truncated tour of the school.

Q. How do I schedule a tour?
A. You may sign up for a tour  using our online registration system within the admissions portion of the website.

Q. Do I need to complete an application before my tour?
A. No, you are welcome to be a part of a Tour and to attend our Open Houses prior to applying to Beauvoir.

Q. Are there any feeder schools to Beauvoir?
A. No, we receive applications from children who attend over 160 schools from the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia area.

Q. How can the Teacher Recommendation Form be completed if my child does not attend a school?
A. This usually is handled on an individual basis. At times a child may be enrolled in a class (art, dance) or may attend a church or synagogue where an adult is able to provide the necessary information.
