APPLICATIONS

The application deadline for PK through 3rd grade has passed.

Families will be able to apply on-line for the 2014-2015 school year beginning in September 2013. The application is needed in order to schedule your child's visit so we encourage you to submit your application in a timely manner. The deadline for applications is mid-December 2013.

APPLICANT VISITS

The Admissions Office will send via email a scheduled appointment for your child’s visit once his or her application has been received. Visits begin in November and continue through February. Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten candidates visit weekday mornings from 8:50-10:30 am with other visiting children similar in age. Please keep in mind that parents are required to remain at the school for the duration of the visit. Children play with a variety of toys, games, and blocks. They also participate in directed activities, which assist us in observing learning styles. Please note that we are unable to offer tours during these visits. You may refer to the section on School Tours for more information.

Any questions regarding applicant visits may be directed to Kate Gallery at kgallery@cathedral.org

TEACHER OBSERVATIONS

Beauvoir values the observations of teachers who are currently working with your children. These teachers provide extremely thoughtful impressions and need time to complete the Teacher Observation form.   Any other information you may wish to bring to our attention is most welcome.

APPLICANT EVALUATION

All students who apply to Beauvoir are required to have a standardized student evaluation. This assessment evaluates children in the areas of verbal and nonverbal development and is done by an educational psychologist of your choice. Children are compared to children in the same age range and the information is designed to offer an objective view of development and learning in young children.

Children applying to Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten are administered The Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI). Evaluators send the results to the parents of candidates as well as to the schools to which they are applying. It is wise to plan ahead and have the testing done in a timely manner so that children are not over-scheduled with their school visits and evaluations. For your reference, we have compiled a list of some Evaluation Centers in the Washington DC Metro area, however, you are free to use any evaluator you wish.

OUT-OF-TOWN APPLICATIONS

Our goal is to accommodate the schedules of out of town applicants to Beauvoir. Therefore, please inform us as soon as possible of any dates you plan to be in the
Washington, DC area so that we can schedule a visit and tour for you and your child.

Whenever possible, we would like to have children applying for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten participate in our regularly scheduled group visits. Classroom visits are arranged for First through Third Grade applicants. Again, advance notification of travel plans is greatly appreciated.
Applicant Evaluations can be administered by a qualified diagnostician in your area and forwarded to us for our consideration.A
